My name is Jim Glaser, and I am truly honored to introduce myself as the new Principal of Immaculate Conception Catholic School. I’m filled with gratitude and excitement as I begin this journey with all of you.
I was born and raised in New Hampton, Iowa. My home parish growing up was Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington, Iowa. From a young age, I practiced my faith by attending Mass weekly, serving Mass, singing in the choir, helping neighbors and even playing on the church’s fast-pitch softball team. After graduating from New Hampton Community Schools, I studied at North Iowa Area Community College, then served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ingraham (FFG 61). That experience instilled in me a strong sense of service, teamwork, and perseverance—qualities that have shaped my personal, spiritual, and professional life. After the Navy, I continued my education at Concordia University in St. Paul, earned my Master’s from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota, and studied Educational Leadership at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Faith has been a central part of my adult life. I’ve remained an active member of my parish by attending Mass weekly, live my life always trying to be a good Catholic role model, teaching faith formation classes, and serving as an adult chaperone on a mission trip to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. I’ve also served as the Religious Emblems teacher for our scout troop and had the unique opportunity to volunteer at the “Duty to God” tent at the Boy Scouts National Jamboree in West Virginia. Most recently, I served on the Discipleship and Mission Commission and the Pastoral Leadership Council (PLC). I’m also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Watchmen, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
I began my career teaching 6th grade math and writing, later moving to 3rd grade. After returning to Minneapolis Public Schools, I served as a math and instructional coach, then transitioned to St. Paul Schools as a School Improvement Specialist and Assistant Principal. In each of these roles, I’ve been honored to work alongside staff and families to create exceptional experiences for students — earning recognition as a two-time finalist for Teacher of the Year and helping move multiple schools off state-identified support lists. At the heart of my leadership is a deep belief in continuous growth, beginning with myself, and a commitment to relationships rooted in care, trust, and faith. Together, I know we will support one another, strengthen enrollment, and continue to lead with love and purpose for our students and families.
My wife Janet and I have been married nearly 30 years and have two wonderful adult children. Our daughter Mackenzie, a newly licensed Mental Health Counselor, lives in Columbus, Ohio, with her husband Noah, a pilot. Our son Matt is getting married this summer and works with Northern Star Council, supporting youth development. His fiancé Emily is pursuing an English degree and works at Maplewood Toyota. Janet has worked in fundraising for about 20 years and has been actively involved in parish life, raising our children in the Catholic faith, serving on the Development Commission and singing in the choir. We enjoy camping, attending sporting events — especially visiting different Major League Baseball stadiums — and spending time with friends playing board games.
One of my favorite ways to unwind is gardening—whether it’s tending to my own backyard or volunteering in the church gardens. I look forward to building strong, faith-filled relationships with students, staff, families, and the parish community. Relationships are at the heart of any thriving school, and I feel truly blessed to begin this chapter with you.
